Sensible Living for a Lifetime….

Danyel is the Researcher and Director of ESY LLC, an intense educational service provider. Her main focus area is in at-risk learners and early intervention. Serving as a significant developmental delay teacher for Savannah-Chatham Schools, Danyel advocates in her community for continuum of placement options for children-at risk and disabled. She is currently working on her Ph.D., with a research identity in systematic approaches to early intervention. Teaching for 15 years in grades K-8th, she has obtained her dual certification in general and special education and is gifted certified.

Danyel’s role as an educator, consultant, and state approved trainer allows her opportunities to present at various early childhood centers, school districts, colleges, and universities in conferences centering on preventive, replacement, and response strategies to meet the needs of children with disabilities. She served as chair for the Transition/STEPS committee of Babies Can’t Wait- Part C of IDEA and chairs the Southeast Early Childhood Inclusion Team.

Odessa Harper currently works as an IT Analyst-Client Services for the World Bank Group in Washington, DC. She provides support to fifteen-hundred staff members, serves as a trainer for nine-hundred laptop users, and manages the assignments of desktop support tickets for the Tier II team.

She has traveled abroad to Nigeria and France for work assignments and cherished each experience because it gave her a new awareness of cultural values and norms, outside of her life experiences. She gained personal growth and life-long skills regarding cultural diversity. She also traveled to Florence and Tuscany Italy with her daughter for a leisurely vacation. Her bucket list includes traveling to every state in our country with 28 states remaining and at least one more country abroad.

Odessa holds an Associate of Art and a Certificate in Computer Applications from Montgomery College. She also obtained a Master Certificate in Information Technology Project Management from George Washington University.

In her spare time, Odessa enjoys managing her Mary Kay business, freelance catering, and hosting customer appreciation events for her husband’s home improvement business. She is also a business advisor for her sister’s cake business and occasionally designs silk floral arrangements and coordinates weddings.

Odessa raised her only child, Nicole, and put her through graduate school. She deems her daughter as the source of her life-long inspiration and is so proud of the beautiful, positive, and intellectual woman she has grown to be. Odessa thrives on being a mentor to others and being a support system for her family, co-workers, and friends.

Odessa has been married for over twenty years and lives in Silver Spring, Maryland. She makes it her priority to learn something new every day and thanks her creator for the multitude of blessings in her life.

Kimberly A. Hayes has over 30 years’ experience in non-for-profit management and therapeutic social service delivery.  She holds a BA in Social Developmental Psychology from Bloomfield College and two master’s degrees from Columbia University.  One is a master’s in education with a specialization in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling and the second is a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology.  Ms. Hayes received mental health clinical skills training from Bellevue Hospital and went on to work as a mental health counselor in the Adolescent Day Hospital Program for six years.  With this experience and these credentials, she acquired executive level positions in mental health and educational and recreational facilities.  This included a directorship positions at New York City Mission Society, Harlem Interfaith Counseling Service, and The Hudson Guild.  She has provided consultative services to Local Initiative Support Corporation, Cornell University, Meager Evers College, National Black MBA Association, New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and many small grassroots organizations such as Harlem Mothers Stop Another Violent End, Insight for New Housing, and Uptown Dance Academy of Harlem, just to highlight a few. She was also a member of Columbia University’s research team working with HIV and AIDS prevention and intervention with incarcerated women.
Ms. Hayes has developed family systems services programs which have been utilized with pre-k children and their families, the holistic engagement of middle school and high school age students, youth aging out of foster care, the prevention of gun violence, and the training of social service and mental health providers.  As a Director, she has managed an interdisciplinary team of over 300 staff, servicing some 2,500 families annually.  In 2008, Ms. Hayes was invited to go to New Zealand to share best practices in the holistic engagement of youth; but due to other commitments, she had to decline the invitation.
Her portfolio of contract management has included city, state, and private monies in excess of six million dollars.  In various executive level positions, she has managed funder relationships with The Robin Hood Foundation, Citi Bank, Chase Bank, Washington Mutual Bank, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Office of Children and Family Services, Department of Youth and Community Development, Agency for Children Services, Coca Cola, Con-Edison, Affinity Health Care, Starbucks, and Roc-A-Fella Records.  Ms. Hayes’ work with strategic partnerships has consisted of hospitals, local politicians, law enforcement, community based and faith-based organizations, parents and youth; as well as national organizations and associations like Real Men Cook and the Association of Black Cardiologists. While at New York City Mission Society-Minisink Town House, she helped to raise an excess of three million dollars to assist with capital improvement and close an annual operating deficit of a quarter of million dollars.

Marilyn Patrice Hervey was born on June 23, 1972 to Huey and Marilyn Marie Hervey. She is the eldest of two daughters. Her father, Huey, is retired from the federal government, serves as the Elder over Evangelism, and does personal evangelism. Her mother, Marilyn Marie, was a school teacher, then a home maker, and served as the church statistician. Marilyn Patrice attended William Allen White, West Middle School, and F. L. Schlagle High where she graduated 9th out of a class of 247 with a GPA of 3.85. She gave the Farewell Speech to the class of 1990 during the Commencement ceremonies. Marilyn loves music, as encouraged by her mother, and played violin throughout her entire school years.

In her professional life, Marilyn is currently the Manager of Learning and Organizational Development for Government Employees Health Association (GEHA). GEHA is a branch of Health & Human Services and administered the Pre-existing Conditions Insurance Plan (PCIP) that was the interim insurance for those who were denied insurance until the Affordable Care Act came online in 2014. Marilyn worked on the systems implementation section of the ACA. She is now in command of readying systems for the conversion to ICD-10 diagnostic codes. She manages a team of 16 Training Specialists. Interestingly, Marilyn always wanted to be an attorney growing up, but the teaching genes from both her parents flowed heavily and after graduating from Oklahoma Christian University, Marilyn fell in love with the training profession and never looked back. Before GEHA, she worked for Hostess, travelling 90% of the time to 41 different bakeries training on a variety of subjects.

Marilyn is currently living in Grain Valley, MO, spending time with her niece and nephew, and baking.

Nseabasi was born and raised in Nigeria, West Africa where she completed her elementary and secondary education and began her undergraduate studies. While in Nigeria, she became a Registered Nurse Midwife in 1987. She practiced her profession at various hospitals in Lagos, Nigeria.

Since 1999, Nseabasi has been a Nurse Leader in the Progressive Care Unit at Highland Hospital in Rochester, New York. She is also a BLS Instructor for the American Heart Association as well as a Legal Nurse Consultant. She became a member of the Beta Chi Chi Sorority in 2008 and interned at the Strong Memorial Leadership Conference in 2013.

Over the years, Nseabasi has provided volunteer health services for the Fingerlakes Health System and for various community functions. Recently, Nseabasi joined the Sensible Women Initiative (SWI) and will serve as Director of their Health and Wellness Department in addition to providing health services for the SWI Alpha Chapter.

Nseabasi is married to Zacchaeus Ikpot. The couple has been blessed with four children – three daughters and a son. They have been further blessed by their children’s academic astuteness and achievements. One daughter will is a 2015 pre-med graduate of Cornell University; their second daughter will be a sophomore at Cornell in the fall; their son will be a senior at Saint Bonaventure University next year; and their youngest daughter, a high school sophomore, already has plans to become a doctor.

My name is Solome Jabessa, and I am 28 years old. I was born and raised in Ethiopia, and I came to the US when I was 19 years old. I currently live with my two younger siblings and my mother in Alexandria, VA.

I finished my degree in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2016. After graduating from VCU, I continued to work as a research assistant for an ADHD Research Program until I moved back to Arlington. Following my move, I started working for Fairfax County Government as an administrative assistant. I spent two years working there while also working for All-State Insurance Company as a part-time IT technician and IT Coordinator for the World Bank Group.

My passion has always been in helping people no matter the industry I am involved in, especially when it comes to young girls. I know there are a lot of things I would have done differently in my life; but because I didn’t have proper guidance, I went through life my way. For the most part, I was learning from experience through trial and error.

I believe I have a lot to contribute to SWI as part of my dream to help young girls and to also fulfill my dream to work for a non-profit organization. I am excited for all future endeavors with Sensible Women Initiative Inc.

Growing up in “The Bronx” in New York City, Donna Jarrett-Paris witnessed firsthand the sacrifices needed to raise a family, thanks to her hard-working parents.

In 2008, during the worst economic crisis, Donna was laid off from the financial sector as an executive, and her entrepreneurial spirit led to the creation of “It Takes a Village Today,” an online marketing company. As Founder and CEO, she offered exposure to fledgling businesses struggling for recognition and financial assistance in the crowded commerce and media markets by staging networking events throughout New York City. It was at these events she was also able to create huge opportunities for young vibrant filmmakers and actors by producing and co-­directing the off-Broadway stage play titled, “Love Hurts,” which has sold out continuously for 6 months in New York City.

Donna’s relentless drive to pursue excellence has made her a sought-after motivational speaker who imparts personality, confidence, and authenticity. She is the proud recipient of the Heroes of Humanity Award from the Rockland County Commission on Human Rights.

As the author of “You’re Not My Mommy, WARNINGS from an Ex-Stepmother,” Donna recounted her experience of love and marriage as she once lived in the very modern dynamics of a blended family lifestyle. The book has garnered her interviews with prominent radio shows such as Sirius Radio “Sway in the Morning,” Bronx Net Television, as well as being guest speaker at women’s groups and organizations to candidly share the trials and tribulations of being a stepmother. Donna is currently pitching to a few cable networks promoting the book as a television series motivated by her personal responses that the relevance of her words has engendered.

Donna is also the CEO and co-owner of Paris Hair & Beauty Supplies, LLC, located in Trenton, New Jersey. She astutely assessed that the U.S. commerce for Black haircare products, which is a half a trillion-dollar industry, was being monopolized and corralled by Asian manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. Donna seeks to remove the barriers with “Operation Take Our Hair Back” with a steady aim to broaden the market share for African American entrepreneurs within manufacturing, distributing, and retailing sectors for natural quality-based products and accessories as well as to educate the consumer about the strength of their buying power. Due to Donna’s passion on social media about entrepreneurship in the African American community, she has been featured on a number of forums; Facebooks “Boost Your Business,” Sista’s in Business (Philadelphia Chapter), and Natural Hair Care Forums. Paris Hair & Beauty Supplies also was awarded “The Celebrity Entertainment Business Award” (C.E.B.O) in 2017 and was recently recognized as one of the best successful Black Owned Businesses in New Jersey, “Best in Natural Beauty” from New Jersey Black Business Association.

Donna continues to work in the financial sector and currently resides in Trenton, New Jersey, married to her childhood sweetheart, Drew Paris.

Cierre Jones is poised, ambitious, and tenacious. She is a self-starter with outstanding social skills. Ms. Jones is a triple threat with a strong desire to succeed. A challenge inspires her. Against the odds, she graduated from Armstrong State University with a degree in Health Science. She currently works as a Lab Technician for Yancey Brothers Company in Austell, Georgia. Cierre is talented, courageous, and is not afraid to step or think outside the box. She will stop at nothing to accomplish set goals and objectives. Even though she is a very effective Technician, her passion lies in the Arts.

Ms. Jones is the Founder of Poca Positivity. She loves to inspire others to express their creative talents. She is a dance instructor for young girls and enjoys mentoring youth to higher heights. Cierre is also a professional dancer and has performed at SWI’s Conference along with many other community and college events. She is wholeheartedly committed to making a positive difference in the lives of youth she has the opportunity to serve.
